Making the Case

Fundraising is a fundamental component of resource development in most nonprofit organizations and is most often feared. When sharing a compelling story about the work of your organization, the fear can quickly dissipate. Planning your organization’s case for giving will be time well-spent. Your case for giving should explain the organization’s mission, talk about your programs and the people you serve. Understanding why people give is one of the keys to effectively making a case. A great tool to begin making your case is to list the unique characteristics of your organization and answer the following questions:

1. Why are you worthy of philanthropic support?
2. What are your key selling points?

If you have more suggestions or ideas in helping others make their case for giving, please share it.
