Do you follow the “daily deals” at GroupOn? It’s a site that offers a coupon special each day and had its roots in charity fundraising. It has moved away from charities however, making room for others to take the idea and run in a pro-social direction. One new site is http://www.philanthroper.com/. It tells the story of one small nonprofit each day but it doesn’t offer a coupon, it asks for a $1 donation. Internet users can donate as easily as posting a tweet.
And one dollar is all you are allowed to give through Philanthroper. The founder, Mark Wilson, says “you can’t appeal to the average Twitter user to donate $25 on a whim.” His idea is to build a giving habit.
Payment processor is mPayy who is charging just a penny on each transaction, putting 99 cents in the hands of the nonprofit, within three business days, according to FAQs at the site. The charities chosen will be small and in need of “every dollar they can get,” said Wilson.
You can be a donor at the site OR you can submit your nonprofit to be considered. Organizations can expect to be vetted thoroughly, by phone, after a check of their tax forms. Religious and individual causes are not considered.

GiveMN’s Give to the Max Day – November 16
Nonprofit organizations throughout the state will once again ask Minnesotans to display their record breaking generosity during the second annual “Give to the Max Day” on November 16. Dana Nelson, executive director of GiveMN.org, is optimistic about this year and has a goal of engaging more than 40,000 donors within the 24 hour time period. To help achieve this goal, new incentives for nonprofits and donor participation have been created such as:
· A $20,000 and $10,000 prize grant will be awarded to the top two nonprofits in the Twin Cities and the top two nonprofits in greater Minnesota that attract the largest number of individual donors on Give to the Max Day.
· Throughout the event, an individual donor will be randomly chosen every hour to have an additional $1,000 given to the charity that received the donor’s original donation.
· Donors will have the opportunity to double their dollars for hundreds of featured nonprofits that have secured matching funds for Give to the Max Day.
GiveMN has a list of the top 5 hints to create a great profile page to increase donations to your organization, see the complete list. There is also a how-to video and other tools and resources that will help you maximize your presence which can be found at http://www.blog.givemn.org/. For a complete list of FAQs visit Give to the Max Day.

Breakfast Anyone?
Bremer Bank Twin Cities locations kicked-off their 2010 United Way campaign by assembling nearly 1,000 breakfast bundles for low income families in the Twin Cities. Breakfast bundles are bags of breakfast items for kids. The bundles were distributed to Catholic Charities locations, East Metro Women’s Council and the Northside Child Development Center.
Additionally, employees brought in toys and games used to fill-up kids birthday bags, which will be distributed by Cheerful Givers, a nonprofit organization, to kids in the Twin Cities area.

Text Message Donations
Spotted this article in today's New York Times addressing the text message donations pouring into the Red Cross for the Haiti Earthquake victims. I found it to be an interesting read and wanted to share.
