Strengthening Communities Through Collaboration

Coordinate, collaborate and cooperate are the three C's that Karen Ray from Karen Ray Associates will be talking about at a Nonprofit Summit scheduled in Grand Forks on October 14, 2008. A group of nonprofits in the greater Grand Forks area is planning to build partnership capacity in nonprofit and public sector organizations by learning a proven model of collaboration.

The goals of this summit are:
1. Professionals use common vocabulary, models and concepts to communicate and understand inter-agency partnerships.
2. Professionals and organizations strive for real outcomes for consumers and clients as a result of partnering more effectively.
3. Professionals and organizations act together to enhance the climate and culture for partnerships that impact service delivery.
4. Elected officials gain a greater understanding of how, why and when to partner in the public sector.

According to Karen Ray, collaboration is often misunderstood. "There is a difference between shaking up and getting married."
