$983,873 Raised by on-line giving program in Fargo-Moorhead Area in 24 Hours

During the Second Annual Dakota Medical Foundation (DMF) Giving Hearts Day online fundraising event, individuals donated $701,364 to 70 area charities. In total, 3,350 donations were made by donors from nearly every state in the nation. The total donated online this year more than doubled what was raised in 2008.

On February 12, Dakota Medical Foundation matched contributions of $10 or more made online at impactgiveback.org to eligible Giving Hearts Day nonprofit partners. The Foundation matched donations dollar-for-dollar up to $5,000 per nonprofit. DMF also provided incentive funds to 10 nonprofits that received the most donations. In total, $983,873 was given to local nonprofits.

“This year’s Giving Hearts Day overwhelmingly exceeded all of our expectations,” said DMF President Pat Traynor. “This incredible outpouring of financial support serves as a testament to the kind, caring and generous people of North Dakota, Minnesota and beyond!”

The 2009 Giving Hearts Day top 10 fundraisers raised from the No. 1 - $78,129 to No. 10 - $20,212. They contacted regular givers and many new potential givers by phone and letter to encourage giving in this new way, via the Internet.
