Using Social Media?

I attended final presentations for Bremer's Leadership Academy yesterday. This program is designed to further develop the skills and talents of Bremer's emerging leaders. As part of the program, all participants team up to present final projects. One of those projects focused on the increasing use of social media as a business tool. Currently, Bremer has just 'dipped its toe' into the waters of social media. In addition to this blog, you can follow the company via Twitter and many employees also are on LinkedIn, the professional networking tool.

Bremer is taking a cautious approach to making social media available to all employees. It is first reviewing all potential security risks and then putting security blocks in place to protect the organization. Next steps include developing some policies around use of the new medium and developing recommendations for use that align with the company's mission, vision and business strategy.

Is your organization using social media? Do you have any 'best practices' to share regarding implementation and possible guidelines?
