Merging Nonprofits

Two local noprofits are talking about merging and The Nonprofit Mergers Workbook from Fieldstone Alliance has been useful in guiding the discussions.

One aspect, new to me, and perhaps to you, is the concept of interlocking boards. There may be reasons that two agencies cannot merge, but by electing the same members to both boards, activities and finances can be coordinated. This requires no legal action as each corporation remains intact. It is often an intermediate step before actual merger can take place.
