Survey Says...

The Minnesota Council of Nonprofits (MCN) held a briefing last week on July 19 in Mankato to share findings in the fourth recession related assessment of Minnesota's nonprofit economy since 2008. MCN's "Nonprofit Current Conditions Report" summarizes the responses of 447 organizations that completed the MCN survey on topics ranging from cash flow to staffing. The survey was conducted from June 17 - 30, 2010, with 74% of the respondents from the Twin Cities Metro Area and 26% from Greater Minnesota.

A review of the 8-page report's subheadings preview the sector's current conditions:
  • Minnesota's nonprofit economy is starting to stablize
  • revenue reductions have stabilized
  • economic challenges still greatest for smallest organizations
  • nonprofits have started hiring, but some still laying off
  • revenue streams show mixed anticipated results
  • nonprofits are proactive in response to changing economy
  • perception on economy improving
