Commitment, Leadership and Passion

A 2010 survey by the nonprofit DoSomething.org asked admissions officers what they thought of volunteer work of college applicants. The survey revealed long-term local efforts were more likely to impress than a summer abroad. When students write about the experience, it is clear to those reading applications when it is sincere. The three most credibility-building words were “commitment,” “leadership” and “passion."  The website has the full survey results plus many ideas on youth causes and ways to get involved.
