Financial Literacy

Financial Literacy – A Focus on African Families in St. Cloud

While Bremer Bank has had a targeted focus on financial literacy over the past several years with many partners including United Way, TriCAP, Junior Achievement and others, this past July our focus turned to a specific community group.

Together, with African Development Center, Lutheran Social Services, Tri-CAP, and Catholic Charities, we met starting in May at Bremer to develop and plan a financial literacy class to help new Americans adapt to U.S. financial systems, practices, and culture.

This session encompassed four learning topics included budgeting (presented by Catholic Charities), Savings (presented by Tri-CAP), Banking (presented by Bremer), and Credit (presented by African Development Center). Our Bremer volunteers (pictured above), Debbie Talberg, personal banker, and Abdalla Guled, credit analyst, brought great value to the participants as well as to themselves!

For more information about this session, read “Finding Financial Refuge” on the African Development Center’s website or click here for a direct link to the pdf.
