Making Ends Meet in Greater Grand Forks Metro Area

A few weeks ago Bremer in Grand Forks hosted a press conference on “Making Ends Meet in the Greater Grand Forks Metro Area.” The research revealed important information, but it also started a conversation with many different stakeholders. There were more than 40 people in attendance with representatives from economic development, city council, nonprofits, government agencies and for-profit businesses. This shows the commitment to community that Grand Forks has.

It takes all stakeholders to build and keep a healthy community. As we move forward it would be helpful to address these challenges head on with involvement from all representatives of the community. From there it is helpful to use the Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) approach which starts with asset mapping and builds on the strengths of the community. The ABCD approach starts at the grassroots level, bottom up approach, and has input and buy in from the population that is needing the most assistance. This approach creates empowerment and commitment to systemic change. On November 15, a community brainstorm session will be held at the Grand Forks Herald Community Room at 6:30 p.m. This will serve as an opportunity to continue with this community conversation by getting input from all members of the community. Free daycare will be provided at the YMCA.
