Conflict Among Board Members

Many of us have served on a nonprofit board and are well aware of conflict that can arise among board members. We are not always comfortable addressing the conflict, but conflict is inevitable and not necessarily a bad thing. When there is growth, there can be conflict. It is how that conflict is handled that can determine the success or failure of a particular situation.

I recently had a meeting with UND's Conflict Resolution Center and was impressed with their services that are available to nonprofit organizations. They often help a board work through its conflict with empathy, understanding and compassion. This helps the organization move forward and grow in a more constructive matter. If you or your organization is working through conflict, check out the Conflict Resolution Center.
