Everyone is thinking about finances – personal, corporate and nonprofit. For nonprofits, fundraising might have to turn into friend-raising for awhile. You could be more successful asking for a donation of time, rather than money. Of course, as noted fundraiser Kim Klein at the Grassroots Fundraising Journal says, “You can’t pay the phone bill with volunteer time.”
Still, there may be projects languishing that staff haven’t had time for (updating mailing lists, producing a directory) that will have new life with volunteers.
CharityMile also has a suggestion for fund raising in tough times: ask donors for a small amount and suggest they ask a friend for the same. You add a new prospect to your donor base and can even keep the “ask” going to a friend of a friend.
