The Fargo-Moorhead area will honor civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Monday, Jan. 19 at 7 p.m. at the Fargo Theatre (314 Broadway). Event highlights include a performance by the Martin Luther King Celebration Choir, dancing by Fargo-Moorhead’s “Raices De Mexico,” the presentation of the Fargo Human Relations Award, and a screen presentation of historic photographs of the Civil Rights Movement as well as local photos of our own community’s commitment to service and diversity. The event is free and open to the public.
The Fargo Human Relations Award will be presented to three individuals/groups who have made significant contributions to the area of human relations in the Fargo-Moorhead community: Michele McRae of the Giving + Learning program for her work with the New American community, Carl Ben Eielson Student Leadership for their commitment to community service, and the Peace Talk Radio Show of KNDS FM (hosted by Paul Dyer, Lew Lubka and Paddy McLaughlin) for their efforts to increase peace awareness and dialogue in the community.
Those attending this event are invited to bring non-perishable food items, new clothing items such as socks and underwear, toiletry items or monetary donations for the Fargo-Moorhead area’s homeless and needy. Items will be distributed to area homeless shelters and food banks, as well as the upcoming “Homeless Connect” event at the Fargo Civic Center on Tuesday, February 3.
This is the sixth year Bremer Bank has helped sponsor this event.
