Another way to give

Have you heard of Leave a Legacy? In west central MN we now have 4 communities with a Leave a Legacy presence. In a nutshell, Leave a Legacy is an initiative or public awareness campaign to get people thinking about how they can give back to their communities by giving to charitable organizations. Besides cash contributions, people can leave legacy gifts through bequests, trusts, gifts of stock, personal property, land or retirement plans.

In Alexandria, Fergus Falls, and now Breckenridge/Wahpeton groups of nonprofits worked together with the help of West Central Initiative and myself as the local Nonprofit Resource Specialist at Bremer Bank (hswitt@bremer.com) to promote this concept by developing a local brochure that accountants, attorneys, bankers and financial planners can use with their clients.

In Wahpeton, ND last week the local chapter sponsored a training for accountants, attorneys, bankers and financial planners in the morning, followed by a noon lunch and a fundraising training for the local nonprofits in the afternoon.

The Transfer of Wealth to the next generation by 2052 in the U.S. is expected to be between $41-136 trillion dollars!

To see the study commissioned by the Impact Institute go to www.impactgiveback.org/pdf/wealthtransfer.pdf. Leave a Legacy is one tool that can be used to raise awareness and encourage people to plan their giving and leave gifts to their favorite charities. Why not consider one in your community!
