Working Together

Never underestimate the power of working together! In February 2010 Resource Connections (a group of nonprofit organizations and Holly Witt, Bremer NRS) organized and hosted the county’s first Nonprofit Expo at the local National Guard Armory in Morris, Minn.

There were 57 nonprofits, including schools, community clubs, 501c3 organizations – a good variety and cross section of organizations from the county, who set-up a table and shared information on their programs and services. A free meal was served, the local Public Health agency gave H1N1 shots and each organization gave away a door prize and other give aways.

We have been hearing lots of positive reports from both vendors and participants (an estimated 200-250 community members attended the event). According to the participants survey, 71 out of 76 people said they agreed or strongly agreed that they became much more infomed about local nonprofits by attending the Expo. Another positive result of the Expo was that a couple of organizations reported recruiting volunteers for their programs!

The Resource Connections hope is that the networking that started with the Expo will be just the beginning of many more connections and opportunities for the people of Stevens County, Minn.
