Southwest/West Central Volunteer Connections hosted a workshop on April 19 that got area nonprofit and volunteer administrators talking and thinking about how to build relationships with Latino, East African and Hmong community members with a focus toward engaging them in volunteer activities. The Minnesota Association for Volunteer Administrators (MAVA) presented the session at Bremer Bank in Willmar, and featured Dr. Mai Moua. Dr. Moua shared helpful and interesting tips based on her research with MAVA in understanding immigrant volunteerism practices.
More information on what participants heard and learned in the workshop is described in an article posted in the West Central Tribune by Reporter Anne Polta, "To engage immigrant volunteers, relationships matter."
