Promoting Philanthropy

Last week I attended a meeting to learn more about how North Dakota is working to encourage and promote philanthropy. Policy makers have approved legislation on tax credits for gifts made to qualified North Dakota endowments.

Only a few states offer charitable tax credits of any kind. This tax credit makes it possible for individuals and financial institutions to give more and through their contributions, have a greater impact on the state’s quality of life.

Individuals may receive a 40 percent tax credit for contributions of $5,000 or more to a qualified North Dakota Endowment. This is a great gift to encourage philanthropy in our state.
