The Changing "Faces" of our Communities

I recently had the opportunity to attend the Corporate Volunteer Council of the Twin Cities (CVC-TC) annual business meeting and update from the Minnesota Compass team led by Wilder Research at the Amherst Wilder Foundation offices in St. Paul. It was an awesome presentation and the data this team has is incredible!

Wilder Research Scientists Andi Egbert and Jane Tigan presented the latest and greatest research findings in regards to demographics, education and health care for the Twin Cities area and the entire state of Minnesota. One of the key themes from the research was the continuing change of the “faces” of our communities. Research pointed to an increasingly older population as well as larger youth population that include people of color. One of the key stats they presented was people 85 years and older include only five percent people of color whereas 41 percent of children under the age of 5 are people of color.

All this research and much, much more including data on outstate Minnesota areas is available on the Minnesota Compass Website at http://www.mncompass.org/.
